If you love horses, this is your music! Hurry and order it! Recorded acoustically Mary Ann's passion shines through. The songs are intimate and stirring. "I wanted these songs to be all about the message." Mary Ann said. There are fun songs like, "Cowboy Girl" and "Get Up and Go." "Big Love" tells of the deep and powerful love in a horse or dog's heart, no matter their size. For Pat Parelli, "Slow and Right, (beats fast and wrong)."… For the gentle man who started Mary Ann on the journey to understand horses, and to help others understand horses through her music, Ray Hunt, she recorded "Two Leaves," a powerful, inspirational and touching song. "All these years later, when I wrote and sang this song, I could see Ray pointing to that big oak and saying, 'If that tree was a horse, I know two leaves.' This song is for you, Ray. Thank you. We miss you."

Bob Langrish Comes to Tennessee
By Brenda Wright
Editor/Owner of Hoofbeats Magazine

On June 6, 2010, I was invited to come to Magnolia Valley Equestrian Center, Eagleville, Tennessee with my stallion, Lethal Wolfe to meet Bob Langrish, the world renowned equine photographer. Rafael Valle, invited us there with his stallion, Ivory Pal and Milton Cranford was also there with his horse, Bo. Mr. Langrish likes to take his pictures with the horses running free so we chose a large paddock to let them run. We all gathered to watch each of the horse’s individual pictures being taken by Bob.

I was amazed as I watched him at work. Bob has a technique of growling like a bear. He often finds that this causes them to put up their ears. We all really enjoyed working with him and he has a wonderful sense of humor about him. We were also honored to have Conrad Noddin and his wife Alisa with us; owner of Malibu Video Productions who works with Nashville Newzine, your online newspaper/magazine.

As Bob was taking pictures of the horses, Conrad was filming him and producing a video to be called “Shooting the Master Shooter” (video can be seen here on the Equine Page). Bob comes to America seven, eight or nine times a year and he travels all over the world. Just since the first of this year, he has traveled over 85,000 miles world wide taking pictures of various breeds. On his website he has over 25,000 pictures of various breeds of horses. (www.boblangrish.co.uk)

After our photo shoot we were invited by Sam and Mary Tune, owners of the Magnolia Valley Estates, Eagleville, Tennessee, for a good old fashion summer cookout. They made us feel so welcome that we just did not want to leave. During the meal I was able to talk to Bob and ask some questions of how he got started in equestrian photography.

He stated that he became interested in the camera at the age of 14. As he grew older he followed in his father's footsteps and became a policeman. His father was a captain with the Metropolitan Police Department. At the age of 20, along with being a policeman, he started photographing motor racing. When he was 23 he had to decide whether to stay in the police force or venture out in the world of photography because the police force would not allow him to do both. Lucky to all of us, he then decided to take on his life’s dream. For fifteen years he went to various horse shows and took pictures. And after that he found what in life he enjoyed the most. When you pick up a horse calendar just think of him. He has supplied most all of the pictures for these calendars.

After 37 years of specialization in this field, he has built an equestrian photographic library of over 400,000 pictures covering all aspects of the horse. He has completely illustrated well over 100 books and has contributed to over 200 others. He is most famous for his stunning pictures of horses running free.

He has taken photographs at six Olympic Games and has flown 1.5 million miles in the last 14 years for calendar photography and adds 20,000 new images to his library annually. He works for top equestrian magazines in more than 20 countries around the world.

Bob Langrish lives in a 17th century Cotswold Tythe Barn conversion in England. His international business is based a few miles away in a 17th century stone building which was once the local courthouse, in a small village called Bisley, deep in the heart of the Cotswolds.

Bob is a totally self-taught photographer and uses digital photography for all of his work. He uses Canon EOS 1D MK 11 cameras and lenses from 16mm - 600mm.

Bob Langrish has established a firm reputation as one of the foremost international equestrian photographers in the world.

Friesian Evaluation & Round Table Discussion with Jan Engelsma at Clearview Horse Farm in Shelbyville, Tennessee. (Play seminar video below).
Jan Engelsma is a former FPS Board Member and former FPS judge with an expertise in linear scoring. He has judged many times in the United States and Canada during our inspection circuits & has been the featured speaker for our AGM on occasion. Jan speaks poetic English and strongly believes he can teach about the Friesian horse in an uplifting and positive way.

Sponsored by FHAME for the second year, this evaluation is not formally associated with the FPS. However, the topics will be consistent with the goals, direction & vision of our international registry. Jan did not speak directly or officially for the FPS, but drew on his years of experience as an official judge to share and teach what he knows and has learned. He has an extensive knowledge of the bloodlines and may well have inspected the ancestors of your horse!

Costumes of the Period in a Competition Presentation.

The Friesian Horse dates back to ancient heritage of royal mounts and exhibits great athletic ability, strength, elegance and loyalty. The Dutch consider the Friesian to be the "Black Pearl of the Netherlands". This horse was also used as a war horse in battle. Established in 1993, the North American Friesian Horse Society (FHS) now serves as an American Friesian registry.

The Gypsy Vanner Horse is a magical and wonderful feathered beauty. The word "vanner" is a gypsy term and a shortened form of the word caravan. The Gypsies painted their horse drawn caravans with strikingly vivid colors that bespeak the very unique artwork that went into their "decorations in motion". The Gypsy horse society was believed to have originated in Egypt (E-gypt-sy) and they had an unquenchable urge to roam as they went throughout eastern and western Europe bringing their culture and music with them. These horses were bred with much love and pride by dedicated Gypsies who would rarely part with their horses. To see these horses perform and move truly inspires awe and passion for their breed today!
